"Please, Mr. Panda" Book Inspired Party

We absolutely love the book, Please Mr. Panda by Steve Anthony in our house! This wonderful story about manners follows the adorable (but somewhat grumpy) Mr. Panda while he offers his animal friends a sweet treat. Simple, colorful and with an important message that your kiddos are sure to enjoy! (If you don’t already own the book, you can purchase it HERE.)

Since it is such a popular book (not only in my house), I thought it would be fun to create a party inspired by it that would be easy to duplicate in your home for a birthday party, play date or homeschool activity. Check out the inspiration and ideas below.

Because the story surrounds Mr. Panda and donuts, the basics of the party decor also focuses on these two things. Adorable Panda plates and cups paired with bright and fun donut napkins (in my son’s absolute favorite…Strawberry frosted with sprinkles!) can be used to serve your sweet treats to party guests. Decor of sprinkle filled balloons and a donut banner can be easily layered over a tissue paper or fabric backdrop to create a photo area or for behind a cake table .

White soda jerk hats can be personalized with guests names or labeled with “Doughnuts” like Mr. Panda’s as a fun accessory or favor.

Whether you stack your favorites from Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Creme or your local shop or you decide to bake a giant donut cake, what would a Please, Mr. Panda party be without DONUTS!

I personally love the idea of a giant donut cake. Check out this one by The Little Epicurean. The easy step-by-step instructions can be adapted to your liking and you can purchase the pans needed to make it HERE.

But if you decide to go with regular sized donuts, then why not make it part of the party. Bake or pick up plain glazed or regular cake donuts from the store of your choice and have your guests decorate their own.

Use the recipe below for a simple powdered sugar glaze. Add in a few drops of neon pink (or your favorite color to match the party decor) and then have your guests spoon it on and add sprinkles, crumbled cookies, candy bits or whatever else your donut-loving heart desires!

Basic Powdered Sugar Glaze Recipe

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 2 tablespoons margarine or butter, softened

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk or half-and-half

In medium bowl, combine all ingredients until smooth, adding enough milk for desired glaze consistency.

Pandas, donuts, sprinkles….what more could you want! I hope you enjoyed this Please, Mr. Panda Party board. Leave me a comment to let me know what you think!
